Computing for the Older and Wiser by Adrian Arnold

ComputingolderwiserTo be published by Wiley, November 08

According to a recent report by media regulator Ofcom the traditional image of pensioners as technophobes is no longer true! The over-50s now make up a quarter of all Internet users in the UK.  AXA reports that four out of ten older people now spend an hour a day on their computer.

Computing for the Older and Wiser is a basic introduction for anyone in the 50+ age group using a computer for the first time. It is based on Adrian Arnold’s tutorial notes as a Computer Trainer at Age Concern, which he has used to teach ‘the older and wiser’ for the last seven years. No previous computing knowledge is assumed, and the text is written on a need-to-know basis, so that there is no unnecessary detail to deter the nervous beginner! It is written in a friendly manner, and avoids the use of acronyms and ‘computer-speak’.
